Privacy Policy
Last updated June 11, 2026
Candlewick is a private date night app for two partners. It is built around secrecy, so we collect only what the ritual needs and we never sell your data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Who we are
In this policy, "Candlewick", "we", and "us" refer to the operators of the Candlewick app and the website at candlewick.app. You can reach us any time at [email protected].
Information we collect
- Account identity. When you sign in with Apple, Google, or an email link, we receive an identifier and, depending on the method, your email address and display name. If you use Sign in with Apple with Hide My Email, we only ever see Apple's private relay address.
- Your date night content. The places you pick, photos you add, journal entries you write, and the private star ratings you give each night. This content is the heart of the app and is visible only to you and your partner.
- Restaurant details. When you pick a place, we store public information about it (name, cuisine, approximate location) so the app can show it and build your map. This is public venue data, not your personal location.
- Notifications. If you allow push notifications, we store a device push token so we can send you reminders and reveal alerts.
- Purchases. If you subscribe, our payments provider (RevenueCat, working with the Apple App Store) tells us your subscription status so both partners can unlock premium. We do not receive or store your card number.
How we use it
- To run the core ritual: pairing, picks, reveals, ratings, journals, and your year in review.
- To send notifications you have opted into.
- To provide and manage premium access for a couple.
- To keep the service secure and to fix problems.
We do not use your content to train advertising profiles, and we do not sell your personal information.
Who can see your content
Your picks, photos, journal entries, and ratings are private to your pair. Ratings stay sealed from your partner until a season ends, by design. Database access rules enforce that one couple cannot see another couple's data. If you choose to share a year in review link, only what you explicitly share is made viewable through that link, and you can revoke it.
Service providers
We use trusted infrastructure providers to operate the app: Supabase (database and authentication), Cloudflare (photo storage and the website), Apple and Google (sign in and notifications), Expo (app delivery), and RevenueCat with the Apple App Store (subscriptions). They process data only to provide their service to us.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can request that we delete your account and associated content by emailing [email protected]. If a couple stops using Candlewick, their shared history is archived rather than exposed, so that neither partner can later weaponize it.
Children
Candlewick is for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices
- Turn notifications on or off in your device settings.
- Manage or cancel a subscription through the App Store.
- Request account and data deletion by email.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will update the date above when we do.
